Weaned-BabyOnce baby is 6 months old, do not postpone to weaning baby, baby must be weaned in the meaning of be motivated her spirit to taste solid food which paying her attention. It is intended to make baby to learn chewing and swallowing. If this adaptation process is late to be started, baby could be late to be skilled either to chewing or swallowing solid food, also be late to enrich her eating appetite. This situation could trigger a problem when she gets older. For example, when she is 3 years old she only wants to drink milk instead of eating food, lazy to chew, stay her food in her mouth, picky to food, etc. It is disturbing to know, isn’t it?

On the contrary, if the adaptation process of introducing solid food going well, in her age of 12 months old baby is expected to be already able to eat multiple diverse food, and drinking breast milk at the same time until 2 years old. In the second year, baby is really need many nutrition resources besides breast milk, because breast milk (500 ml a day) only covers about 31% of baby’s energy needs, 38% to protein needs, 45% to vitamin A needs and 95% to vitamin C needs. It means baby absolutely needs another nutrition resource which is able to supply 69% of energy, 62% of protein, 55% of vitamin A and 5% of vitamin C. It is another reason why you should not postpone to weaning baby.

At last, baby’s organs are getting mature along with their age increasing, also their skill on chewing and swallowing foods. Baby’s food appetite is getting richer as well since it is prepared when baby was still 6 months old. At this point, eating food is not only an activity conducted when baby feel hunger, but also an activity in which baby really enjoy it. Eating will become a social activity with family which is enjoyable for baby. So, don’t postpone to weaning baby, get your baby wean in their first year of life.
