Sleep is important for health, including for our baby’s health. How long should the required sleep time that is needed by a baby? The answer is varied, but if baby doesn’t sleep enough, it will cause the emergence of many disturbances, whether it is physical or emotional. In this post, I want to share with you about the sleep needs for 0 to 24 months baby.
Here are the needs of the average length of time for a baby to sleep according to their age:
- 0 to 3 Months Baby
New born baby generally require 17 to 18 hours a day for sleep. Even so, your baby will sleep more than three to four hours in their one time sleep. By the age of three months, their needs for sleeping will be approximately 15 hours per day. Many experts suggest that during their night sleep, baby should be sleep near their parents, especially during their first six months of life. - 3 to 6 Months BabyIn the age between 3 to 6 months, your baby will be awake several times during the night. As a result, you should also be ready to be awakened in the night. But, before the age of six months, a baby is generally able to sleep through the night. At this period of age (3 to 6 months), your baby needs an average of 15 hours of sleep per day.
- 6 to 9 Months BabyAt this level of age, baby requires around 14 hours of sleep per day. In this case, your baby is able to full sleep for 7 hours a day at a time. Consistently maintain baby’s sleep time will very help to set baby’s sleep pattern.
- 9 to 12 Months BabyAt this age, your baby takes an average time of 12 hours to sleep at night and also added time for a couple hours (between 1.5 to 2 hours) to take a nap. Make sure that your baby has enough time to because sleep is very important for baby’s development. Consistently, you must also put nap hour routinely to your baby.
- 12 to 18 Months BabyAt this range of age, your baby takes average 11 hours time to sleep at night and a few hours in the afternoon. By the age of eighteen months, your baby only need one time to take a nap, with a duration of between 1.5 to 2 hours.
- 18 to 24 Months BabyAt this age, your baby takes an average time of 10 to 12 hours to sleep in the night, plus 2 hours sleep in the afternoon. Some babies still need twice napping in the noon.
Sleep for baby is really important, therefore, as parent, we have to maintain their quality and quantity of sleep. Regarding to maintain the sleep quality and quantity in baby, we have to know their sleep needs according to their age, so it won’t cause any disturbance to be experienced by baby.
