One amazing aspect of baby’s movement development is, although generally baby through certain stages of movement at the same age (for example, most of baby is able to sit at six months old), there is a lot of ways for baby to explore their ability in improving their movements.

Crawling and walking are the two examples to explain the concept above. Your baby may use their hand and knees to crawl on the floor, while your friend’s baby at the same age is prefer to not put their knees on the floor in order to crawl and their bottom is highly lifted. Both of those are the crawling stage but in a different way. Besides, there is also a baby who doesn’t interest to crawl, but they prefer to walk after through sitting stage (without experiencing crawling stage).

Babies are also posses the ability to control their movement, although sometimes you may see them are randomly moving their body and hands. But believe me they can control all of their movements. The movement development stage of baby is different from one to another, but basically their ability to control their movement in the first year of life follows these two following things:

  • From head to the under of the body. First of all, baby is able to control the movement of the upper part of their body before they can control the lower part. For example, they prior able to lift their head before their backbone is strong enough to sit by themselves and they have to fully able to sit before they started to walk.
  • From chest to the outside. Baby have to prior able to fully control their middle part of the body before they are able to control their hands and feet. For example, baby is able to lift their chest from the floor before their hands are able to exactly reach the objects in front of them. And of course, your baby have to fully able to reach the objects using their fingers before they are able to kick the ball.

Baby’s movement development is improved better by giving them the right stimulation. It’s time for us to always giving them the right stimulation in order to make them develop optimally.
