In this second year of baby’s life, her social-emotional development enters a new stage along with the development of her identity. She really wants to determine her choice by herself (without your interception) and strict to it, she also wants to conduct everything what she wants. When she is 15 months old and later, she becomes a person who put her desire at the first place, which is in adult usually called egoistic. Your baby doesn’t able to understand someone else’s opinion. But on the other side, there are many experiments prove that baby at this period of age is hardly tried to understand what other people feel and think. Here are the social-emotional development milestone in 12 to 24 months baby.
By 12 to 14 months:
- Baby is really not independent, she might depend on you, and she will hug you tightly when she feels happy.
- Baby able to play when another same-aged baby are around, but your baby only play by herself.
- Having high awareness as a personal that naturally possess certain disliking and liking to something.
- Possess eager desire in getting what she wants and her anger will blow up when she feels very frustrate.
- Start to feel jealous when you put your attention to the another besides her.
By 15 to 18 months:
- Having desire to do many things, especially eating and wearing clothes.
- Able to learn good custom when eating by sitting together in the dining table.
- Start to learn the basic on how to get socialize, such as giving her toys to the other baby.
- Showing predilection to certain food or toy.
By 19 to 21 months:
- Glad to be accompanied by you and try to get attention from you by talking or playing.
- Showing the signs that she is ready to be potty-trained, although at this period of age she hasn’t able yet to control her wee-wee.
- Try to oppose your decision.
- Start to build interaction with the other baby, but still need social basic direction from you.
- Able to understand simple rules, although she tends to not obey it.
- Enjoy her routine daily activity.
By 22 to 24 months:
- Enjoy being around the other same-aged baby, but having difficulty to share the toys and she hasn’t able yet to play together with them.
- At this period of age, baby usually try to be potty-trained, although she hasn’t able yet to control it.
- Try to help when you clean her body on the bathing-time and when you brush their teeth.
- Enjoy the responsibility to finish her little task.
- She might will cry when separating with you for a while, but she will stop crying when you are not seen anymore by her.
- She will feel shy when meeting the unfamiliar people.
