Every baby has different pattern of development and growth stage from each other, including their social-emotional development. In this particular posting I try to provide you the general guide of social-emotional development of 1 to 12 months old baby.
By 1 month :
Baby will respond positively when you talk to them or when they are listened music.
By 2 months :
- Giving their first smile.
- Starting to able to sleep tight at night.
By 3 months :
- They are very excited to be the center of attention.
- Trying to get attention from their parents when the parents are around them.
- Able to show what they feeling through their faces expression.
By 4 months :
- Enjoying the intimate activity with their parent, such as eating, bathing, or clothing.
- Relaxing when you sing a song for them.
By 5 months :
- Starting to form an approaching to toys or objects, particularly before they sleep.
- Able to play by themselves but only in a short time.
By 6 months :
- Feeling restless with a stranger person, possibly they will cry.
- Holding a toy more tight when you are trying to take it.
- Turning around when their name is called.
By 7 months :
- Angry when their activities are disturbed.
- Enjoying their routine activity, such as bathing or sleeping.
By 8 months :
- Starting to build social contact with the other adults.
- Possibly they will look shy and doubt if a new person wants to carry them.
- Enjoying when they are accompanied by other babies, even though they are not playing with them.
By 9 months :
- Interesting when seeing the other baby and when starting or touching the other child.
- When baby seeing you or the other child are angry, they will angry too.
By 10 months :
- Giving and receiving an embrace.
- Very like playing an interactive game.
- Their mood easily to change.
- They haven’t understand yet about the consequences of what they do to the other child.
By 11 months :
- Disliking when they can’t get what they want.
- Liking to conduct certain activity in order to get a compliment.
By 12 months :
- Playing a game that involving social interaction with you.
- Your baby more to be like play with other baby that having same gender when they are in the middle of group with various gender.
- Angry when they don’t want to cooperate.
Social-emotional development in baby is crucially needed to be watched by parents. As social personal, their emotional development will be profoundly influenced by people around them, especially their parent, and it will surely ascertain their personality when they have grown up.
