Baby-BrainTaurine is one of the most abundant free amino acids in the nervous central system. Taurine is one of many factors that having influence in the development of brain. Taurine is an amino acid that naturally was contained in breast milk. Taurine is usually contained together with the other of amino acid, which is cysteine. Cysteine is very needed by fetus and premature baby since their liver and their brain haven’t been able yet to produce the enzyme that helps in degrading amino acid methionine into cysteine.

Taurine had been proven able to help the development of brain and retina function. The taurine function in the brain is acted as neurotransmitter or order messenger from one neural cell to another. Besides, this amino acid is also playing a role in the maturation process of brain cells since it helps the lipid absorption.

Baby hasn’t been able yet to produce taurine from methionine or cysteine, so that in order to fulfill their needs to taurine, their body should acquire taurine in an adequate number from mother’s breast milk. Therefore, exclusive breastfeeding from 0 to 6 months is being important in order to support the formation process of brain to be passed off optimally. According to its importance, taurine has been added to many infant formulas as a measure of prudence, since the early 1980s.
