The water in fetal membrane can’t be seperated from womb’s life. Why? When it is seen from its function, this liquid is very important in protecting the womb growing process and the development. This liquid becomes the cushion that protects trauma from outside, stabilizes the temperature and liquid changing, becomes the media that makes womb can move freely, and controls the pressure inside the womb. It is not only that but the fetal membrane water also has function in protecting womb from infection.
The fetal membrane water that has enough volume and the color is not muddy, has function in keeping the nutrition and oxygen for the womb. In contrast, the exceed or the lack of fetal membrane water will disturb the function that can cause complication at mother or at the womb itself.
The normal condition
As the pregnancy period is getting older, the activity of womb body organ influences the fetal membrane water composition. The amount of this liquid is not always same from week to week. This amount will increase or decrease based on pregnancy development.
When the age of pregnancy is 25-26 weeks, the amount of this liquid is about 239 ml, Then it will increase to 984 ml. Later, in 33-34 weeks of pregnancy, it will decrease into 836 ml when the womb is ready to be born.
Some factors that cause the fetal membrane water decrease
- Swallowing process. The womb can swallow the 20 ml of fetal membrane water per hour or a half of the amont of fetal membrane water in one day. But the amount of the liquid that swollen is same with the urine that produced by the womb.
- The fetal membrane is leak.
- The decreasing of placenta function because the period of pregnancy is over limit.
- The kongenital disturbance (in womb) that relates with the disturbance in urinal system like the kidney doesn’t develop well or there is clog in urinal system.
